Prenatal vitamins

Prenatal vitamins are designed especially for women in the childbearing years who are looking to become or already are pregnant. The supplement ensures the women gets plenty of the nutrients needed for the developing child.  A deficiency in certain vitamins and minerals can lead to birth defects if not corrected.

Prenatal vitamins contain higher amounts of iron and folic acid that normal vitamins do. Iron is needed to prevent anemia. Folic acid is important for the developing fetus’ nervous system, not enough folic acid can lead to spinal bifida in the child.

Pregnant women still need to eat a healthy well rounded diet but prenatal vitamins assist in making sure the woman still has appropriate levels in required nutrients. Many new prenatal supplements are now including DHA and EHA which are Omega fatty acids critical neural and eye development.  Children who get adequate Omegas have better developed brains and eyes.
